There must be a mad scientist somewhere out there who came up with the idea of adding a foaming agent for plastics to frozen croissants and hot dog buns. The idea seems to have caught on because now about 500 products that we know of use this ‘champagne of plastics’ to fluff dough and hold shape during shipping.
About a year ago, a foodie friend of mine told me there was plastic in big-chain pizza dough. I googled and couldn’t find anything about it. Now, Vani Hari, ‘The Food Babe’, has brought ADA into the spotlight. The same chemical that’s used to create foam insulation for your house or create a yoga mat could be in your hamburger bun. Here’s the list. Pillsbury and Sara Lee have a lot of foamy products. Yum!
